Polymeric Surfacing

  • High Jump Area with Polymeric Surfacing

  • Polymeric - Long Jump Run Up Refurbishment

Outdoor Spaces installs polymeric surfacing for sports courts, multi use games areas and athletics tracks at a range of organisations throughout the UK.

The polymeric EPDM rubber is a popular choice for these sports facilities as it provides ideal ball bounce capabilities for sports like basketball and tennis, as well as having ideal slip resistance qualities for these activities. Many schools, clubs and leisure centres choose to have this surface specification installed as it creates a versatile facility which can be utilised as an all-purpose multi-sports area.

Polymeric sports surfaces are made up of EPDM rubber crumb particles which are mixed together with a binder and poured out onto a macadam base.

The mixture will then be left to cure, leaving a versatile and durable surface for a sports court or athletics track facility. Once installed, the polymeric rubber system along with the macadam sub base will be completely porous and SUDS compliant to allow water to easily drain through, preventing flooding in the area. Non-slip paint coatings can be applied to the polymeric rubber surfacing in a range of colours to enhance the performance qualities and to give the sports facility a fun and exciting appearance. These coloured coatings are made up of polyurethane paint which is combined with a mixture of sand and aluminium oxide to achieve the required slip resistance qualities for the chosen sports. The surfacing can also be line marked in different colours to distinguish between a variety of activities including tennis, netball and basketball for a multi use games area.

When the installation of polymeric surfacing is complete, it’s important to look after the new sports facility properly to prevent any damage and to ensure that the court or athletics track performs to its full potential. Outdoor Spaces offers a number of maintenance services to help keep the polymeric rubber in top condition, these include pressure washing, chemical treatments to prevent moss and algae contamination, and repairs to localised damaged areas. Carrying out this sort of regular cleaning and maintenance will help to maintain the porous properties of the EPDM rubber flooring and therefore reduce the risk of any flooding or damage to the area as a result of heavy use or weathering.
